The Bottle
I was walking down the beach one day,
looking back at my footprints slowly
washing away. As I strode, the sun took
a wayward dive. As the light rippled
across the water, something caught my
eye. It was a bottle, floating ashore,
pulled by the ever-changing currents.
I stopped to pick up this strange visitor
from the sea. By now, it was covered
in wet sand. It was sealed with a cork,
and it held a message inside. It read:
Rejoice, for He that made me
gave us the sun, and its light
endures forever!
Hmm, that's funny. The sun is almost
gone. How can its light endure forever?
That guy must've been nuts.
I sat down to watch the sun set.
Eventually, I fell asleep. When I woke,
the first lights of dawn were beginning
to brighten the night sky.
On my chest was this little note:
You may not see me, but
I am always there. I am the sun.
I sat up, wondering who left this there.
I looked right and left and saw nobody.
I looked at the sand and saw footprints
leading to the sea. I looked up.
He was walking on water.
